For the 20th anniversary of Disney’s Animal Kingdom today I thought I’d post this shot I took of some of the beautiful artwork in the park. There’s so much great detail if you get the chance to slow down and look around!
Interview: Tim Conway (Hollywood legend, comic genius)
I just posted my interview with Hollywood legend and comic genius Tim Conway, who discusses his career including McHale’s Navy, The Carol Burnett Show, the Disney movies he did, and more. Warning: You may laugh a little along the way! CLICK HERE for the interview.
Interview: Marc Davis (Disney animation)
I just posted my interview with Disney Legend Marc Davis. His work includes everything from designing characters such as Cruella De Ville and Tinker Bell to designing story and character concepts for such Disneyland attractions as it’s a small world, Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion and Jungle Cruise, Marc was a major part of Walt Disney’s success. CLICK HERE for the interview.
Kiss the Girl
It’s Valentine’s Day, so go ahead and Kiss the Girl! I took this photo of The Little Mermaid attraction in Disney California Adventure, trying out a Sony A7R III camera.
A peek inside Walt Disney Elementary, Marceline, MO
Here’s a special peek inside the Walt Disney Elementary School in Marceline, Missouri, the city where Walt Disney began his childhood education.
When the city decided to name their elementary school Walt Disney Elementary, Walt was so touched, he attended the dedication, and brought gifts. He presented the school with a 55 foot flagpole from the Squaw Valley Winter Olympics for which he was “Chairman of Pageantry.” He also gave them an entire set of encyclopedias, and a specially designed playground.
Walt also had artist Bob Moore decorate the school with special artwork. The paintings you see here are in the school’s gymnasium.
What a treat it was to have the opportunity to visit inside this historic Disney location! Thanks, to Kaye and the city of Marceline!
Christmas in the Carousel of Progress at Disney World
I took this photo of the Christmas scene in the #CarouselOfProgress attraction at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World. Although it’s in the show year-round, I thought it was appropriate to post for this time of year. I’ve loved the Carousel of Progress since I used to see it in Disneyland back in the 1970s! I vividly remember the sad day that I went to see it and was told the attraction was closed forever. While the show was moved to Florida and is quite a bit different than the one I used to see, I still can’t believe I am able to bring my own boys to see it, with the rotating theater and the classic Sherman Brothers song, “There’s a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow.” I posted this picture and lots more on my Instagram, come join me there https://www.instagram.com/mouse_clubhouse/
Candlelight Processional at Epcot 2017
What a thrill it was to witness the Candlelight Processional this year at Epcot. This Christmas tradition began at Disneyland in 1958 and features different guest narrators each year. On this night, the guest was 2016 Olympic gold and silver medalist in gymnastics, Laurie Hernandez.
The setting is quite different than the Disneyland version, which takes place in front of the Disneyland Railroad station in Town Square. In Epcot the Candlelight Processional appears on a stage in the American Adventure pavilion, which I found to be equally as effective for a moving and inspirational performance.
Walt Disney’s boyhood hometown
I left my heart in Marceline, Missouri! This is the Main Street of Walt Disney’s boyhood home. The inspiration for his Disneyland Main Street is evident all over the beautiful city! Thanks to Kaye and the Walt Disney Hometown Museum for the VIP treatment during our unforgettable visit!
What a thrill it was to see the Uptown Theatre in Walt Disney’s boyhood home of Marceline, Missouri. This is the theatre where Walt held the midwest premiere of the Great Locomotive Chase as a gift to the citizens, and told the children, “You children are lucky to live here. My best memories are the years I spent here.” Walt Disney Hometown Museum
Mickey Mouse egg yolk
People often use the term “Disney Magic,” and when I saw this egg in my lunch at Tokyo Disneyland, I knew the only way to get a Mickey Mouse-shaped egg yolk was with Disney Magic! Either that or that chicken is just watching way too many Mickey Mouse cartoons!
This restaurant, Plazma Ray’s Diner in Tomorrowland, has the storyline of being a successful restaurant with chains not just on Earth, but all over the universe!
Billy Barty and me
Thought I’d post this picture of me with the late Billy Barty, who was born on this day October 25th in 1924. What a great talent he was. In addition to his numerous movie and television roles, he was the original voice of Figment in the Epcot attraction, “Journey Into Imagination,” where he sang the Sherman Brothers’ wonderful composition “One Little Spark.” (Side note: How I love digital photography so we now know before it’s too late if we blinked in the picture.)
