Goodbye to legendary choreographer Miriam Nelson
I’m sad to post that legendary Hollywood and Disney choreographer Miriam Nelson passed away this morning at the age of 98. Besides her many Hollywood credits, Miriam choreographed so much of the dances for the opening day of Disneyland in 1955. She continued working both in Hollywood and for Disney including the Disney on Parade traveling show and Disneyland’s Golden Horseshoe Revue. I recorded an interview with her a few years ago and will do my best to post it really soon! You’ll love hearing her story and I will remain grateful for the times I got to spend with her!

I took this picture of an Audio-Animatronic Native America chief from the Mark Twain riverboat in Disneyland, California.
Walt Disney Elementary in Marceline, MO
Below is a 1959 newspaper clipping of Walt Disney in front of a rendering of the Walt Disney Elementary School in his boyhood hometown of Marceline, Missouri, and below that is a photo I took of the still-operating school as it appears today.
Wally Boag (Tiki Room contributor)
For the 55th anniversary of Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room today, I thought I’d post this photo of the first time I met Wally Boag. Besides starring in my favorite Disneyland show “The Golden Horseshoe Revue” for 27 years, Walt Disney had Wally write most of the Tiki Room show. He is still heard as the voice of the show’s emcee bird, Jose, in both Disneyland and the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World.

Mermaid Lagoon in Tokyo DisneySea
Here we are in “Ariel’s Playground” in the Mermaid Lagoon area of Tokyo DisneySea – the beautiful land is mostly indoors. It’s fun to be part of that world!
May the Fourth post
Here’s my obligatory Star Wars photo for May the 4th. I took this photo of Star Tours in 1992 for a project I was working on for Disney. This is the original Disneyland version of Star Tours with Captain Rex, rather than how it is today with C3PO at the helm.
New Disney characters in Tokyo “it’s a small world”
Check out these Disney character additions to “it’s a small world” in Tokyo Disneyland! Thanks to my great friend Katsumi Kagaya for sending these photos!
